The group was formed in 2003 by tenor sax player Nick Gould, comprising accomplished musicians playing a range of jazz music in and around Edinburgh and Glasgow – for the sheer love of it!
Based in Edinburgh, our experienced line up of Saxophone, Bass, Keyboards and Drums has an extremely wide repertoire including all types of jazz and other well known music. The style of music that JazzMain perform includes most jazz, swing, latin & funk genres from the 1950’s onwards.
JazzMain is a four piece jazz band, based in Edinburgh, comprising a talented and experienced line up of Saxophone, Bass, Keyboards and Drums.
The band has a wide repertoire including smooth jazz, funk, blues, Latin, be-bop and classic jazz standards of the 50’s and 60’s.
We are delighted to be playing at the Doonbeg International Jazz Festival again this year and will be featuring Maria Speight a well-respected American jazz vocalist.
Musicians are
Maria Speight (Vocals)
Maria started off as the only white person in a gospel choir in the deep south of the USA. She studied Opera before becoming involved in the jazz world. She has a powerful and expressive voice and loves to sing and perform music of all types.
Nick Gould (sax)
Nick is well known in the Scottish jazz scene, leader of the Sound of Seventeen Big Band and with trio and quartet groups as well.
A player in the mould of the classic jazz tenor he has a warm tone and a wide variety of styles, compared more than once to Stan Getz (I wish-NG) he is comfortable in any music style from ballad to Latin to funk and straight ahead swing.
Steve Grossart (keys)
Steve has been a professional musician on the Scottish scene for more years that he cares to admit and is Avery accomplished player. He is an excellent keyboard player and works with a number of bands in Scotland.
Jennifer Clark (bass)
Jennifer is also well known in the UK and is the bass player for Horse amongst others, always funky Jennifer lays down the groove for the band.
Slawek Justynski (Drums)
Slawek is probably the most interesting drummer on the Scottish scene today; he combines fearsome technique with excellent time and a mischievous sense of humour
